organic farming food and agriculture in India When we talk about food that means we are connected with farming directly or indirectly. This article will be really useful for them as well as for those who want to explore farming but need information and knowledge about how to do it and what to do it. Let’s talk about Organic Agriculture which means no chemicals no fertilizers at all and only natural ways and resources to be used in organic farming.

Subdivisions of organic farming are:

  1.  SAJIV-KHETI (vermin-compost / earthworm): One which is done with the help of Worms (Adasiyu)
  2.  Farming with Cow & Neem:- means it uses dung, urine of a cow, cow ghee for every need farming like pesticide, fertilizer, etc.
  3.  Save-Sanghvi method: Use a very low or zero proportion of both above methods and let it be grown in the Jungle way, no weeding, almost no water, no pesticides, no fertilizers
  4.  Vedik-Kheti:- Which uses sound therapy (don’t forget to remember Scientist Jagdish Chandra bose- the legend) and some proportion of the above methods (Vedic chanting)
  5.  Homa farming / Agnihotra farming: Farming with regular homas on farmland.

It is proven that whatever method is used, there will be an increase in production, earn more profit compared to the current fertilizer/chemical-based model. Just think about one question,  fertilizers were invented some 60-70 years back, What Indian farmers were doing before that in farming? This will automatically give you the answer that we previously used one of the above methods, but due to the desire for more production of corps and with less hard work we changed our roots, to fertilizer and chemical-based farming models.

Some known myths about organic farming; let’s break all myths, one by one.

1) Myth: Less production in organic farming:

Reality: It totally depends on which techniques you have used, and if production is less in the first phase because of any reason, it will definitely increase in the next phase. We need to change accordingly and implement the same in the under-eye of an experienced person. Here one has to also look at the point that we are getting high quality, at less price; so please don’t hope for bumper production in the first phase. Later on, it will be there for sure.

2) Myth: Organic products are very expensive in the market

Reality: Actually in organic farming, the production cost is very much lower compared to current techniques, but some business-minded people in the name of quality make its higher price. We can sell our products at much lower rates.

3)Myth: Worms are used in it, I don’t like that.

Reality: There are many more optional methods available in organic farming, like dung of cow, urine of a cow, cow ghee, etc OR you can use Save-Sanghavi method.

4) Myth: I don’t know much about organic farming:

Reality: One can contact the nearest Krishi Kendra or the best thing is to visit any of the 4 available Krishi Universities in Gujarat, India. They will give you all the details. One can also search on the internet, there are so many groups, websites, articles that will clear your doubts.

5) Myth: No big market for Organic Products:

Reality: There is a much bigger market of organic products Nationally and Internationally, we need to explore a little bit more. One can not only focus on organic farming but also on organic horticulture, organic herbal products, one can also use some by-products. The key thing is that there is already a market build and if it is not there we can create the market, people will surely come for organic as it does not use any pesticides and chemical fertilizer.

Now one question would have come to your mind if it is so much useful, high crops, high returns ……………. Why it is not much popular?

Answering that one should keep in mind that Organic farming is our Ancient method, there is no question, but we just forget the same. It is because of some vested interest of some MNC companies, chemical fertilizer companies, and bureaucrats they don’t want this thing to happen or be known by everyone. The number of examples where people got really good results and profits from organic farming food and agriculture in India.
